In an effort to better serve Spanish-speaking residents, Broward County's Animal Care and Regulation website, www.broward.org/animal/, is now available "en Español." County residents can learn about animal adoptions, rabies vaccinations, pet licensing and other important services in both English and Spanish. Creating a Spanish-language version of the website was a logical progression in a county that's over 19% Hispanic.

Generally, designing and maintaining a website in two separate languages is a complex and time-consuming endeavor. That's why Broward County selected Unisys Corporation and its teaming partner, MotionPoint Corporation, a Coconut Creek-based technology company, for a pilot project to translate and host the Spanish translation for the Animal Care and Regulation website.

For most organizations, building a multi-lingual website requires that they essentially re-architect their English website and duplicate all of its content in the alternate language(s). Doing so requires substantial technical work and is often inefficient, expensive and risky. Further, maintaining the alternate website(s) demands internal resources because modifications to the English website must be replicated in each of the alternate language website(s).

The unique approach selected by Broward County for the Animal Care Website Translation pilot project requires no additional staff or IT work, because clients using MotionPoint's solution don't need to duplicate content, re-architect their websites or modify their technology in any way. The County's staff continues to update the English-language site as usual, and MotionPoint seamlessly maintains the Spanish version of the site.
